The difficulty is not tolerance, it is how it reads
Industrial parts are judged on tolerance. Sculptural pieces are judged on whether the form is true, whether surfaces flow, and whether the seams are hidden. Split a model well and the joint disappears into a change of form; split it badly and a seam runs across a face that no amount of sanding will rescue.
So the first thing we usually settle on a sculptural piece is the part-split plan: where it breaks, how it locates, and how it joins — magnets, pins or adhesive.
Surface preparation decides the paint
3D printed surfaces carry layer lines, and paint amplifies them. How far to sand and whether to use filler depends on the final paint: matt hides more than gloss, and metallic finishes reveal every imperfection.
Above a few dozen pieces, silicone casting beats printing each unit on both cost and piece-to-piece consistency. State the quantity when enquiring.
