Post-Processing

Deburring, heat treatment, cleaning and pre-finish preparation — the stretch between machining and finishing where parts most often go wrong.

A part is not finished when it comes off the machine. Burrs left behind cut the hands of whoever assembles it and spoil sealing; residual stress shows up as distortion in later operations; inadequate cleaning turns into blotchy anodising. None of these steps is complex on its own, but spread across several shops, the extra handling makes damage and delay routine.

We schedule this stretch in house: parts go from machining straight into post-processing without leaving the building. One planner owns the order of operations, so when something goes wrong there is no argument between suppliers.

Solutions

Deburring precision parts

Cross holes and thin-wall edges that standard tooling cannot reach are handled by hand with dedicated tools, without touching mating faces.

Stress relief between operations

Scheduled after roughing to reduce distortion after finishing — particularly for thin walls and high length-to-diameter parts.

Preparation before finishing

Cleaning and pre-treatment matched to the downstream process (anodising / blasting / painting) to reduce colour variation and adhesion failures.

Process Overview

The value of post-processing is not in how advanced any single step is, but in whether the order is right. Stress relief after finish machining achieves nothing; no anodising line can rescue a part that was not properly cleaned. Our rule: anything that induces distortion goes before finish machining, and anything affecting appearance runs straight into finishing without sitting overnight.

Say which edges need deburring

"Deburr all over" cannot be inspected against. Call out the edges that affect assembly and safety.

Allow stress relief on thin-wall parts

For walls under about 1.5mm or high length-to-diameter parts, state the requirement on the drawing.

Mark cosmetic faces on the drawing

Which face is cosmetic determines work holding and processing order. Unmarked, it is guesswork.

Quality Control

Quality

FAQ

Can post-processing be ordered on its own?

Yes. Supply the parts and a clear specification. We inspect incoming condition first, so we are not endorsing the previous operation.

Is heat treatment done in house?

It is subcontracted to suppliers with the relevant capability. We handle scheduling, transport and record collection. The supplier list depends on the actual arrangement (to be confirmed).

How thorough is deburring?

Standard requirement is no snag by hand and no effect on assembly. If you have a specified burr height limit, mark it on the drawing and we will inspect to it.
